Down Under Dessert on a Deck
Saturday, 29 June 2019 from 06:30-10:00 approx
Join us after dinner for a casual evening with two of the “Shedders” – a group of three couples who built a collaborative household for their retirement. They’ve been thriving there for almost a decade now, so bring your questions on how it’s worked out so far. Guests Heather & Rick Bolstler, originally from Edmonton, have lived in New South Wales for over 35 years, and traveled quite a bit around their adopted country, so you could also bring your burning questions about Australia.
Bring along a dessert or snack plate to share. Coffee and tea provided. RSVP Yes or Maybe for the exact address. There will be no presentation, just sitting around chatting. We don’t expect a large group, so it will be informal. On the deck, weather permitting.

Summer Potluck & Travel Tales
Saturday, 27 July 2019 from 17:30-21:30 approx
Our annual informal gathering on a deck, in this case Cindy & André’s in Cranberry. BYOB. Potluck dinner, preferably stuff that doesn’t need on-site cooking. There is no BBQ but if anyone really needs one, Paul & Cheryl can bring their portable. If you can easily bring outside chairs, we may need a few. (The picture is Cindy & André’s new backyard water feature.)
To keep it travel themed, please post your travel questions, stories, or discussion topics here, so that others come prepared to join in and offer their best tips.
To receive directions to one of our events, please RSVP as follows:
- Preferred. If you have a Facebook Account, please join the Facebook Group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/PowellRiverFreeAt55TravelClub/ then RSVP to the Event you want.
- If no Facebook account: please email your RSVP to Paul at email@example.com
If you’re retired, partly retired, nearly retired, or just don’t like working – and interested in adventure or cultural travel – this group may be for you. We plan to meet informally around various travel-related themes, swap stories and share tips, and perhaps find kindred spirits to travel with.
Topics we hope to address include adventure travel, Airbnb, agriturismo, birdwatching tours, blogging, canal boats, cheap travel, choral holidays, cooking holidays, Couchsurfing, culture travel, cycle tours, Earthwatch, exotic road trips, genealogy travel, home exchanges, hostels, housesitting, intentional communities, language-learning holidays, living overseas, low cost travel, organizing group travel, packing light, photography tours, repositioning cruises, safaris, sailing excursions, senior nomads, solo women travelers, snorkel trips, Servas Open Doors, small group tours, teaching English, train journeys, travel fitness, travel medical, trekking, villas, walking tours, yoga retreats, and whatever else interests members.
We plan initially to meet in small informal groups in organizers’ and members’ homes. As membership grows, we may hold larger events in public venues.
Please invite others to the group if you know they would be interested. Interested parties who don’t use Facebook can email Paul at firstname.lastname@example.org .
